Question Food going right through me!

For the past several weeks I have had diarrhea or loose stools shortly after I eat something. Now, in the past week, and even just today, I can't keep anything in me. Since yesterday, everytime I eat something, I have diarrhea within minutes. I am on some meds, but I have been taking them for two months now, and I also just started taking Arthrotec for my recently diagnosed osteoarthritis. I started taking that at the beginning of this month. I called my doc last week and they had me do a stool sample to check for parasites (I guess to check for bacteria?? I don't know why they did that??) and that came back normal. Since last week, it has gotten worse, I called the doc today and he is sending me to a gastroenterologist (sp?). He also had me stop taking my Arthrotec for now too. I am only 33 and this is so embarrassing and a nuisance! What will the GI doctor do at this appt. I can only imagine

Thanks for your help

Re: Food going right through me!

hi....yeah, it's rather humbling having to go to one, but really you have no choice at this time. It's best to get it dealt with and tested properly.

Just to let you know what you eat won't go through you right away...it will take 12 - 48 hours depending on how fast your intestines (small and large) are reacting.

Eating, however, will trigger peristalsis which in your case means a bm.

I would suggest you keep a food diary just incase the doc asks...maybe you'll see a trigger that you never considered.

Are you consuming artificial sugar products? what about supplements?

I have ulcerative colitis, diagnosed almost 17 years ago. I did, however, have diarrhea for almost 3 years straight before the bleeding showed up...it was then that my doctor sent me to a gastro specialist (who is awesome). I did drop my regular doctor after that incident tho.

The doctor at that time might take a peek with a scope, or he/she'll just ask a lot of questions and set you up for blood tests, stool sample testing (have icecream pails handy), and probably a colonoscopy or upper and lower gi series testing.

It might take a while to get this sorted out....but you really don't have any choice but to pursue it.

Try not to let your emotions get the better of you since stress can exacerbate symptoms.

Oh, forgot to ask....have you tried any elimination of certain foods such as dairy, grains, etc?

keep us posted,
quincy

Re: Food going right through me!

Here is an update...
My doctor would still like me to see a GI doctor which I am scheduled to see this Friday. The diarrhea has slowed a down, but I still have a bm (not always diarrhea) almost everytime after I eat. Today, I noticed my tailbone area is kind of sore. Could this be contributing to how many trips I have had to make to the bathroom lately?

Thanks

Re: Food going right through me!

I had the same problem...diarrhea almost evry day..... annoying as it was i went to the gestroentorologist twice...the first time they stuck a tube through my mouth....not a good feeling and they saw nothing.....NOTHING i went again this time he said theres another way t do it " in my butt" lol oh yes.... the tube was so long i felt it in my stomach ...they just kept putting it in and out...in and out....although u r barely conscious the pain is soo strong that somehow i was awake the whole time.... I kept crapping in the tube i felt it ...so embarrassing.....but it HURT like nothing else in the world...if u can avoid in the butt please do ...Im not sure if u can take that pain.

Long story i know....point is that after the butt incident the diarrhea stopped...im not sure maybe it cleaned my butt out maybe not im not sure but it just stopped. so maybe if through the mouth reveals nothing....i guess u will have to go through the pain maybe itll stop like mine did
