Hi, I went on accutane a month ago, since I had started Ortho Tri-Cyclen LO about 5 weeks before that and it made my skin break out horribly. I was switched to regular Ortho Tri-Cyclen after a month on the other and was put on accutane at the same time...does this brand help acne better? It says it is FDA approved for acne help, but i just wanted to see if anyone had good experiences or bad on this brand. Thank you!

with the exception of the depo shot (which doesn't have any estrogen) I found both low estrogen and regular b/c helped my acne (in fact it seems like it's done a better job than anything else!) I did go on Accutane for 5 months, and that helped, but 6 months later the acne came back. Were you on another b/c prior to the LO? It's not uncommon for people to break out and have funny reactions the first few months until your body gets adjusted to the b/c.. and then it starts to improve greatly. It was quite possible you weren't on the LO long enough.
My experience with Ortho Tri-Cyclen was that it made my acne worse. Things work differently for different people though. I'm on Desogen and it works great for me. The only reason other bcps aren't advertised as helping with acne is that Ortho Tri-Cyclen is the only one that actually did a scientific study to prove that OTC helps acne in some people. Other combinations of hormones in other bcps can help too, and others make it worse. It's really what your body responds to.
Ortho Tri-Cyclen really helped my skin when i was in high school. i tried it again a few years later after the birth of my daughter, but it made me very sick.
