my blood pressure victory

hi,i have managed to lower my blood pressure from 170/80 to 125/75 by doing the following things.
ive lowered my weight from 97kg to 82kg, exercise for 40 minutes 6 days a week by running/walking on my treadmill.increased fruit and vegtables and reduced fat,bad carbs from my diet, drinking 8 glasses of water daily.
when i first went to my doctor he wanted to put me straight on meds and i declined.
it just goes to show that lowering blood pressure without meds can be done if you work hard at it.
there was no way i was going on meds that do more harm than good.
so i say to other people give it a try you may be able to do it without thoes horrible meds.............

Re: my blood pressure victory

Hello,

You are a very strong person and I'm glad that you managed to control your Blood Pressure without Medication but it's not horrible as you said because many people will need them although they cause many side effects. So your bp readings are stable now? I really want know if you was overweight or not. For example, I'm a little overweight, about 4 kg or 5, so I'm not sure if I lost those extra weight it would lower my bp.
Thanks,
Michael

Re: my blood pressure victory

Congrats!

I'm trying to take YOUR approach. I took TWO different hp meds and it was the same thing: got dizzy.....which made me nervous/anxious....which probably raised my hbp. So it was having no effect. HBP meds work for some people but I havent found one for me yet. Now I'm just trying the diet and exercise thing. I have sworn off all processed sugars and starches and I'm eating better. I'm probably no dynamo like you but I walk on the treadmill five days a week and am increasing from 15 minutes to 25 minutes. This has been for almost three weeks and I've lost almost ten pounds (my wedding ring is getting awfully loose)! Yet, my bp is still astronomically high! Grrr......Can you tell me about how long it took you on your diet and exercise regimen to really notice a difference in your bp. I do feel FINE overall but am still concerned.

Re: my blood pressure victory

Hey Michael,

I took toprol for seven days but my body just didn't care for the "woozies" I was getting.

My doc switched me over to enaprinil (also called vasotec). She started me on 10 mg a day (one pill). A week ago last Friday I had an onset of anxiety and immeadiately went to the doc. She told me to DOUBLE the dosage to 20 mg a day. Seemed ok for a few days then had a HORRIBLE Wednesday. I teach and for the second half of the day I was feeling poor and VERY irritable. I SWORE that night that I was THROUGH taking this particular bp med. I got the woozies AND anxiety with this one. Oh, btw, in doing research for this particular drug it was recommended that patients START with 2.5 or 5 mg a day. I started at 10 mg and got bumped to 20 mg! No wonder why!

So the last time I took enaprinil was last Tuesday. Since then I have felt better. I don't get the woozies anymore but two things are unsettling.

Number one: night time anxiety attacks based on MY HEALTH. I am now officially WORRIED about it. This seems to come and go but is strongest at night. Last night, I slept peacefully for about five hours. Woke up for an hour, slept for another four. I've seemed to have been in this pattern for a while now.

Number two: My doc warned me about the accuracy of those department store bp machines. I took my bp today and I was NERVOUS about doing so. It was 170/110! UGH! I took it a few weeks back and it was about 160/110. My doc has told me its closer to 150/100 (still high!)

Anyways, I feel great today. I had a heart echo done last week and my heart is very strong and healthy. I just got off the treadmill going at fast speed for twenty five solid minutes. Worked up a sweat, I feel refreshed and relaxed right now typing this message. A few weeks ago I could barely do 15 minutes at very slow speed without feeling exhausted.

I have lost ten pounds with twenty to go.
