Hair Loss

I had a knee replacement in Sept. and since then have noticed loss of hair.
I am a 68 year old female. I have had hair loss in the past due to a thryroid problem which led to removal in my 30's of my thryoid but none since then.
I am taking Vicadin, ambien and Tylenol Arthritis for pain and sleep.
Any ideas on what could cause this. Hate going to be a bald old woman

Re: Hair Loss

Have you had your thyroid numbers checked since your surgery? Surgery and healing are very stressful and can mess with your body's needs.

I don't know if it's the same type of situation since you had yours removed, but I'll tell you what happened to me. My thyroid was slowly going downhill, but still fairly normal, but then I had ankle surgery and it sent it over the edge and I required medication. I was doing great on my dose until I had another surgery, and then my symptoms came back again and I had to up my dose, been doing fine ever since. So it seems that surgery doesn't work well with my thyroid.

Re: Hair Loss

My thyroid numbers were real low after the surgery and they upped my synthroid. I had a blood test last week and the doctor said it was good. Maybe it is the good old thyroid again. I wonder if the hair will grow back?

Re: Hair Loss

My sister in law had this happen after surgery and her hairdresser said that he has seen anesthesia do this. Eventually, her hair stopped falling out and it is growing again.
