Welbutrin - feeling irritable

hi, I have just been put on Welbutrin. My Dr. has started me on only 100mg a day and will raise it to 150mg after 2 weeks of taking it. Here is my big concern/problem. Since I started taking it, just 5 days ago, I am so much more irritable than I was before! I did read it was one of the symptoms of Welbutrin (which is weird as that is why I got put on it in the first place!) but anyway, I would really like to hear about anyone's experiences and if they have ever heard of this before??? Thanks guys :-)

Re: Welbutrin - feeling irritable

I was put on Wellbutrin over 4 weeks ago. I just went to the PA at my doctor's office. The PA has taken over my healthcare for the past year and I really don't see the doctor. I do like this PA......she is one sharp cookie.
Anyways, she put me on 300mg of Wellbutrin (two 150mg pills daily). I did notice that I was less "edgy" and "irritated" and more "even keal". However, I still had my mood swings & depression. A few days ago, she raised my dosage to 450mg (the maximum dose). Yesterday, my first day with the new dosage......I was a wreck. I was irritable, very depressed, moody & just plain "in the dumps". So now I'm wondering if things are supposed to get worse before they get better!

Re: Welbutrin - feeling irritable

Wellbutrin is not the drug of choice if you tend towards irritability and anxiety with your depression.

Wellbutrin targets dopamine- which if it's NOT your problem (and let's say yours is seratonin) can actually make you more edgy, angry, and anxious.

Wellbutrin is more for the people who are lethargic, sleep all the time, and very dark depression.. not so much for those with mood swings and irritability as main symptoms.

You may want to check into something that mainly target seratonin (Prozac, Lexapro, etc..) or one that hits both seratonin and norepephrine (like Cymbalta or Effexor).

Re: Welbutrin - feeling irritable

Thanks everyone so far who has gave me their comments on Welbutrin. I am supposed to start my 150 mg tomorow, but I'm really wondering if maybe I shouldn't since the 100mg is making me so so irritable...??
I was really hoping this would help me and not make me worst so here's hoping that I find something compatible with me if this doesn't start to work. Very interesting about the whole Dopamine/Seratonin and how it can affect you. I did tell my Dr. I was very irritated and grouchy, but also sad and not much energy so for some reason she decided this was the best for me.. but maybe not...

Re: Welbutrin - feeling irritable

Today, I am on my 4th day of taking 450mg of Wellbutrin and I had an episode 1 hour after taking it.......I felt very dizzy with slurred speech and just "out of it". My husband was worried and took my blood pressure. It was like an "out of body" experience. This also happened the 2nd day I took it. So Sally, what are we to do if this medication doesn't work?? Do you have any ideas as to what you will turn to next? I'm curious about the med Cymbalta. Have you heard anything about that med?
