I LOVE Lo-Ovral!

It is a miracle... I am finally on a birth control pill that works for me!!! I just thought I would share this with everyone in hopes of possibly helping someone else out with an aweful problem I had. For the last 2 years I was one two different birth control pills (Alesse and Tri-Phasal). My primary care doctor switched me from Tri-Phasal to Alesse because I was constantly spotting throughout the month. Unfortunately, Alesse did the exact same thing. Not only was a ruining cute underwear, but it was becomming extremely embarassing during intimate situations (use your imagination, I think I've dealt with every embarrassing moment related to it, lol). Needless to say, I was VERY aggravated and not wanting to see my primary care doctor again. After finally getting a referral to a specialist he informed me that both the BC pills I was on had varying ammounts of hormones day to day, some days lower some higher. He decided to switch me to Lo-Ovral. It is still a low hormone pill, but has a consistant amount of hormones at ALL times. Since the first week I took the pill I noticed a difference almost instantly. It has been two months now and I have been spot-free (Thank you Lord, I can buy cute panties again, lol!!!!). If anyone is having the spotting problem that I had, I strongly recommend talking to your doctor about Lo-Ovral.

Also, some other plus sides I noticed with this pill.... my sex drive is coming back and my skin is clearing up more.... I am SO relieved!

Re: I LOVE Lo-Ovral!

Yikes, you poor girl!!! I started out on Lo-Ovral and stayed on it for nearly five and a half years. I thought that I was really happy on it, though I noticed that I began to feel really irritated over little things. After five years of stress free periods, I developed Melasma (brown splotchy spots) on my feet. I am now on something totally different but my brown embarrassing spots just won't go away.

You may want to watch out for this brand in the future. And you were also misquoted! Lo-Ovral has VERY HIGH amounts of estrogen. After talking to tons of other women who have also been on Lo-Ovral, I came to the conclusion that the estrogen must have been the reason that I became a rage-a-holic, since I was fine before starting it and after being switched to lower doses of estrogen containing Birth Control pills.

I pray that you continue to love this brand, as all pills affect every woman differently. But be on guard, just because it is wonderful now, it can have lurking side affects later. Good luck.

Thumbs down Re: I LOVE Lo-Ovral!

I was on lo-ovral for 12 years and thought I was having no problems - I noticed some poor circulation but thought at my age no way - it must just be something else. Yeah well at 30 years old I developed a blood clot in my groin area the size of a baseball and it almost killed me. I am on blood thinners now for the rest of my life, I have one leg that is bigger than the other because the clot destroyed my main vein in my leg. I am losing my hair, it is destroying my teeth. This is all because of my being on the birth control. Please be careful and watch for signs because I thought this was the pill of my dreams to. Just an FYI so that this never happens to any one else.

Re: I LOVE Lo-Ovral!

Lo-Ovral has 30mcg of ethynal estradiol... which is more than Alesse, and the same as two weeks of Triphasil (according to drugs.com, the second week of Triphasil takes you up to 40mcg of estrogen)... but 30mcg is still considered a low-dose birth control pill (anything under 35 mcg is).

I do think you were misquoted that the pills you were on had varying hormones in them... Triphasic varies, but Alesse is a monophasic pill, just like Lo-Ovral. You probably spotted due to the lower amounts of estrogen.

Anyway, it's great that you have found a pill you really like -- congratulations. I would certainly keep in mind others' warnings... I'm on a different pill and I have read horror stories about it, and I will always be aware of them... if I notice changes, I plan to stop right away =)

good luck with everything! it took me forever to find a pill that works for me, so I know what a relief it must be!
