Question Byetta injections anyone?

Has anyone had experience with the injections Byetta? In 2004 I saw where Vanderbilt University was experimenting with the drug & thought it was wild. Today it was prescribed to me. I don't think I have a problem controlling my sugar levels, but my problem is gaining sooooo much weight. I keep hearing that diabetes meds. or diabetes has to do with weight gain . I know I no longer have a waist line and need to lose about 65 lbs at least. I am getting short winded and miserable. This drug is supposed to help with the weight and the hunger. Thanks for any tips. Mayfairlady

Re: Byetta injections anyone?

Mayfairlady,

Yes, I have been on Byetta for a month now, it is the most wonderful drug for me. I am on the 10 dose and not having any problems. I have lost a few lbs but most importantly, my BS are way down.

SandyS,
Please tell me more...did you need or want to lose weight on the Byetta? Have you noticed it has surpressed your appetite?

I have not filled the prescription yet as I want to find more on what "Lizard spit" will do for me. Thanks for your response.

Re: Byetta injections anyone?

Myfairlady,

Yes I want to lose weight. I have been on so many oral meds as well as insulin, all of which put on the lbs, I had gained 30 lbs. With Byetta, you start on a 5 dose. That made me a bit quesy for a week but nothing major. I did have major belching, which is another side effect. I have now jumped to the 10 dose and am really doing well. It certainly does suppress my appetite. Byetta slows the emptying of the stomach, so you feel full all the time and just can't eat as much. If I eat too much, I feel sick.
There is a ****, www.diabetes.****.com I think, that is very informative, just lots of people on Byetta. Good Luck.

Thank you sooo much for your reply. I have read up on it, but wanted to get first hand info from someone actually taking it. I will get my prescription filled today. You have helped me so much. I havn't been able to figure out why I was gaining so much weight..the scales just keep going up, and I have had both knees partially replaced recently , which I don't need the weight for them or my heart, which is another situation. I take avandamet for diabetes, a combo of avandia, and metformin. I will probably have to adjust that if I start with Byetta. Again, Thank You. Mayfairlady
