muscles pain?

I have severe muscle pain in my upper arms and legs, I recently had blood test in which showed high ANA. But my joints dont hurt. My doctor said it was arthritis, could it be when my joints dont hurt?
Help Please, he put me on steroids.

Re: muscles pain?

Hi Allisok,
Yes it can be arthritis. I have AS and spondyloarthropathy and my hips and shoulders play up but my muscles hurt the most. They stop me from walking more than the inflammation of the joints. I dont have damage in the joints just a gene that says there is something wrong and the fluid goes there. I am sitting here right now with my hips and upper arm muscles burning and haven't been able to sleep. I have just started on prednisone so I am hoping it will kick in and ease the pain.
I wish you all the best.
Take care
Olivia

Re: muscles pain?

Thank you for your reply. Ok but my joints don't hurt, aren't swollen or anything, just the muscles. Now on the prednisone Im shaky and still sore.
What kind of doctor would specialize in a case like this?
I hope you feel better and the medicine kicked in.

Re: muscles pain?

Hi Allisok,

It sounds like you need to be seeing a Rheumatologist, if you are not already?! I think that kind of pain/issue is their specialty. You may need more tests, too, to really tell what is wrong with you.

I thought that Prednisone was for arthritis. The doctor thinks that you have arthritis? Has a sed rate been done and other blood tests like that? I take Prednisone and it does help - but I have swelling and joint pain and un-joint pain too. I also take Relafen and Skelaxin and Tramadol (Ultram) for my RA.

Good luck on a new doctor - if that is what you decide. There is not need to be in pain, a good doctor will fix that.

Take care.
