Is Bactrim dangerous?

I'm 17 and I'm on my 3rd month of bactrim but my dermatologist never told me any of the bad side effects. Is 3 months too long to take bactrim? I'm also on ortho tri cyclen which I've been taking for almost 4 months now and I'm hoping I can stop taking the bactrim soon and just use the birth control for my acne.

Re: Is Bactrim dangerous?

My daughter took it for 1 1/2 years and never had one problem. It helped tremendously. It's not good to take any antibiotic long term. Some people have serious reactions to bactrim but they happen right away. I agree it would be great if your bcp controlled you and you didn't need the Bactrim any more.

Re: Is Bactrim dangerous?

I took Bactrim for about 1 and 1/2 years. I then went through a period where my skin broke out very badly for about two months and went back to Bactrim for about another 8 months. I never had any bad side effects; atleast not visible, or so much physically. However something to remember is that your body becomes dependant whenever you take an antibiotic for such a long time. Basically the bactrim will not only kill the bacteria but also your white blood cells and other friendly bacteria. However it definetly helped clear up my skin almost amazingly while I was taking it.
