acne and Yasmin

Hello. I started taking birth control when I was 16, 6 years ago. Most recently I have been on yasmin. I never had bad acne when I was a teenager before I started birth control. A few months ago I stopped taking my yasmin. After that I got bad acne on my face, chest, and back. I waited a couple of months to see if it would go away, but it didn't. (I also had weight gain). My question is, if I give it more time should the acne settle down? Could it be that my hormones are just trying to adjust since they haven't "been on their own" for 6 years? I went back on the yasmin because of the acne, but if possible, I would like to not take it at all. If I know I can get through the initial time of not being on the pill with the acne, it will be worth it for me. Please tell me what you think. I can't take accutane for at least 2 years because I am having laser hair removal. Thanks!

Re: acne and Yasmin

I had been on BC pills for YEARS, and my acne was mild. I thought, hmmm, maybe it's the BC pills causing the acne, so I decided to stop. BAD MISTAKE. My acne got SO much worse. I stayed off the pill for about a year to see if maybe my hormones would "normalize" and my acne would die down, but it didn't. After going back on the pill for a couple months, my acne was back to it's mild self. I really think being on BC pills helps acne-- especially monophasic BC pills where there's a constant dose of Estrogen and Progesterone.

Re: acne and Yasmin

Hi,
This is so weird because I take Yasmin to stop my acne by my GP's recommeddation. I had acne since I was 13 or 14, 2 years ago I started taking Yasmin it has improved a LOT. But if I stop taking it then my acne comes back.

Re: acne and Yasmin

So far, it sounds like everyone's acne has gotten worse once they stop Yasmin or other BCPs....does that mean that Yasmin is one of the things that really cleared you up? It sounds too good to be true!

I am trying new topicals (Differin Cream, BenzaClin, and Rosac Cream) as well as Yasmin (I am in my first week of pill pack #1 with only a little bit of nausea when I first wake up). Currently, I have developed 1 big cyst on my forehead as well as my usual bunch of blackheads/whiteheads/closed comedones/scars on my chin and jawline.

Since my acne is mostly hormonal, I am hoping for Yasmin to help clear me up before I am a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding in April.

If Yasmin worked for your acne, did you get an initial breakout when you first started it? If so, when did you begin to see results? I've heard anything from 3-4 months...what's the verdict here?
