ARB vs. ACE

Does anyone know if there's an advantage to taking an ARB over an ACE other than the coughing issue? Are they more effective at lowering BP?

ACE inhibitors are more effective- if you can handle the side effects, they are the way to go. ARBs are actually one of the least effective drugs at lowering bp.

I think that's right. On the other hand, ARBs are very benign in terms of side effects.

My son takes both an ACE and ARB plus a calcium channel blocker, and they haven't done much to lower his blood pressure, but he has a condition renal artery stenosis) that makes his BP hard to control.

What are the side effects of PB meds as i think i am going to wind up taking one...
