Green thick mucous after using Flonase for 3 days

Hello,

I have been using Flonase for 3 days now and I am blowing green thick mucous (sorry, I know it gross) out my nose; I don’t really know what to think about it, is it stuff that has been stuck in there finally is able to get out or is Flonase producing a new sinus infection since that is listed as one of the severe side-effects. Have you experienced this before? Is this something I should worry about? I don’t see my ENT until another 2 weeks.

Yup, I agree. It's doing it's job. You might want to give the ENT office a call though. They might want to see you sooner.

It could be a sign that you have damaged nasal mucus membranes, which was probably caused by a previous infection. As long as the membranes remain damaged, they will continue to produce discolored, thick mucus, and they will be prone to re-infection.

Re: Green thick mucous after using Flonase for 3 days

Any idea how long it would take the average person to recover from damaged membranes? I have been dealing with this nasal congestion for about 4 months now, a recent CT scan reveled fluids in the left maxillary sinus and I have taken all kinds of antibiotics without any success. One thing that does not make sense at all is, if I only have fluids in the left maxillary sinus why is my whole nose congested? Should it be only the infected side?

Thank you.
