back pain brand name vs generic

I was taking soma for lower back pain. My doctor perscibed generic carisoprodol instead of the soma. He said there is no difference and carisoprodol works just as well. Has anyone had this experence. Is there a difference between the name brand and this generic. The doctor said I WAS WAISTING MY MONEY BUYING THE NAME BRAND WHEN THE GENERIC WORKS JUST AS WELL AND IS CHEAPER. WHAT DO YOU THINK. SHOULD I TRUST HIS OPINION? ANY OPINIONS OR EXPERENCE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Should I bother trying this or should I insist on the soma?

THANX, GLO

Re: back pain brand name vs generic

My opinion is that you won't know the difference if you use the generic of Soma... since you haven't used the brand name. (assuming based on your post)

Usually people will run into problems when they switch from the brand name and then go to the generic, which sometimes aren't as potent as the brand.

I don't think you'll have a problem.

Don't go into it thinking it won't work for you, because then you might convince yourself it won't. Happens all the time when people eat. Some people believe a certain thing gives them diarrhea, but in reality it's not the food that is causing their diarrhea, it's just they've convinced themselves it gives them diarrhea, so they always get it when they eat it. The gut is the 2nd brain, after all. In studies it has been shown when the food is hidden, and the person doesn't know they're eating it, they don't get the diarrhea they normally do when they eat those same foods. Just an example.

Re: back pain brand name vs generic

Hey Glo,

I have always used the generic Soma (Carisoprodol). I've never had a problem with it. However, I've never had brand name Soma. I haven't heard anything against the generics of Soma. It is usually narcotic meds like OxyContin, Methadone, etc that have problems with generics.

Take Care

Re: back pain brand name vs generic

All Iahave ecver taken is the generic made by watson and I've never had a problem, but I have nothing to compare it to other than different muscle relaxers that were not effective. I've taken it for 6 years and haven't needed to increase my dose at all.

Like others have said, there are some generics worth avoiding but knwowing this forum, if somene had a problem with generic Soma, we would have heard about it.
It's not like if it's a little weaker you would exeperience withdrawal, so I don't see a reason not to try it.
