trembling

hi folks,
i am a new member and i need help an advice.
i am a 38yr old male and when i get anxious i tremble and get shortness of breath, some examples are:
1:when i meet a stranger and i am STANDING i tremble and get breathless.
2:when i attend social gatherings weddings, funerals etc i tremble and get breathless.
3:any form of confrontation and the above symptoms also happen.
i could go on and on but it would probably take all night.i have been to my GP but i refuse to take any medication.i have recently ordered the "linden method"programme and would be grateful for anyones input on this MIRACLE CURE (oh please, god pleeeeeeeeease!!!!!!!!!)

thank you.

Re: trembling

welcome
theres no shame in taking meds for anxiety.

try to relax and breathe deep and slow, especially avoid rapid shallow panting
dont stand to attention, relax and stand easy, also move your weight from 1 foot to the other

Re: trembling

I also have bought the Charles Linden Method. It helped me alot. Did it cure me no! I do his visualization exsercises alot and they do calm you. I read his whole book. I do not agree with everything he says. But you may. It was worth ordering for me. Good luck with it.

Believe it or not, I suffer from this to a certain degree. However, mine is a little more provoked by a neurological disorder that has effected my speech and voice (I sound low, and sometimes when I'm nervous I can sound breathy as well.)

However, much of this is related to breathing, which I still can't master. Is there any particular reason that has caused this? Have you been avoiding certain situations all your life? I'm 29, and all my life I thought this will get better as we get older. This hasn't happened? How about a psychologist? Have you been to one?

I've been told, confidence is gained by doin. The first time will be the hardest, the second not so hard, the third not as hard, and so on. I know, easier said than done, right?

However, I'm right behind you with this thing, and my New Year's resolution was to make efforts to better myself. And I must doing this by taking the first step. It might be the hardest thing I'd do, but it must be done!

So, here I am trying to take my own advice! Good luck, and try to just do it! We have to, for our own sakes!!!

Re: trembling

I also tremble quite a bit all the time. Has your gp talked to you about a beta blocker? It's not the typical anti anxiety drugs which make you sleepy and knock you out. for me it just calms the shakes and lowers my heartrate so it's not pounding. I've found propranolol or inderall are the best for shaking.I tried anti-depresants but could'nt hack the side effects so these have been a live saver getting rid of the physical effects helps ease the mental anxiety.
