I'm Only 51?

I'm new here and am 51. My psych. told me I have dementia and that they don't know what is causing it. My mri shows 1 brain lesion and some atrophy and something else I can't remember. That there is something going on with my brain. He says it can't be alzheimers because I am so young. I've had a spinal puncture, blood work. I am slightly B12 and vit D defiicient. I get shots and take vitamins. I have depression, insomnia, severe fatique, muscle and joint pain, and gerd and take meds meds for all of that.

MY dementia is the worse symptom. My psych is going to try a alzheimers drug. He said it may or may not help. Here's the question. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on with me? Could it be alzheimers or what. I want to be treated so that it won't get any worse. Its pretty bad now but we can deal with that. Thanks everybody. lily

Since you mentioned joint pain, gerd, and fatigue, ask to be tested for lupus. Another component of lupus is "memory fog". Some types of lupus can produce lesions in the brain. There's a lupus thread on this board and at the top of it is a sticky about the symptoms of lupus. If you have 4 of the 11 common symptoms, you may have lupus. There is also another sticky there that is also worth reading about Antiphospholipoid Syndrome.

I was going to say possibly - Fibromyalgia??? But, Barbaras thoughts sound more plausible! Everything but the brain lesion, could be fibro.

I am afraid that I may become like my parents with either alz. or dementia. Because, I do have some memory problems. But, mine could be mostly from my drugs and age - 55 ! :> :> :>

Let us know what you find out. Keep trying til you find out exactly what is wrong with you!!! That will make you feel a little better, no matter what it is.

I just saw on the news that anti-acid use can be linked to dementia and Alzheimers because it interferes with the body's absorption of vitamin Bs...just thought I'd mention that.

I was going to say...I believe it's what janeslk is getting at...could there be a drug that you are taking that's causing these dementia symptoms?
