Question Is Primatene Mist safe?

I've been using the Primatene Mist inhaler for most of my life. It actually seems to work better for me than Albuterol. And is a LOT cheaper.

A couple of problems I have with using it is that it burns my mouth, throat, and esophagus. If I'm up and about, I rinse my mouth out with water and drink water so the burning goes to my stomach. Another obvious problem is that it speeds up my heart beat and causes irregular heart beats. And I shake like a leaf for about 10 minuites. Ater all it is epinepherine (adrenaline).

Could the constant use (several times daily)of Primatine Mist cause heart valve problems that anyone knows of? Or any other medical problems?

With my income level I really can't afford any other options.

Re: Is Primatene Mist safe?

Gosh, my albuterol is pretty cheap...maybe $10 and it lasts for months....and it will give you the same reaction as you've described....sorry, but I don't know much about the Primatine other than that model who died from using it...the Taylor sister...

Re: Is Primatene Mist safe?

I used Primatene Mist for years. One night it had my heart racing so fast and wasn't helping my asthma attack and I ended up in the ER for the first time with my asthma. I thought my heart was going to burst through my chest. I was given Combivent in the ER (albuterol and atrovent combined) and have continued using albuterol since. I don't have insurance and go throught my health dept. I get it for $6.00. The last time I saw Primatene, it was about $17.
