I am so confused

Last week I went to the Hospital to have a lump on my arm checked. To receive care I had to go through the ER and they did the regular check of weight, BP, and so forth. I was immediately hospitalized for HBP 198/121 and they thought that I may have been having a heart attack. I was put on the following medications: Toprol XL - 100mg / Lipitor - 80mg / Plavix - 75mg / Accupril - 10mg. I have been trying to find out if there are any dietary restrictions with all of these medicines and I can't seem to locate anything concrete. I was told to follow a low sodium/low fat diet. Find... but someone said to limit my intake of green leafy veggies. Oops... doesn't that make it a little difficult? I love raw spinach, lettuce, brussel sprouts, brocolli, and other veggies, but I don't know which way to go. Does anyone know of someplace I can look or some resource I can use? Any and all help is very appreciated.

Re: I am so confused

The same thing happened to my mom. She went to Urgent Care (a few yrs back) to have a dr. look at her leg. They in turn, took bp, blood work and everything, then called an ambulance to transport her to the hospital. The ER doctors said she had had a heart attack and they wanted to monitor her.

Of course, she stated ten days, she had surgery. Then they prescibed toprol xl 100mg, lisinopril 40 mg, lipitor 40, and verapamil 240 and hctz 25 mg. She was never told not to eat green leafy veggies. My mom is diabetic, she was told to go easy on the fruit, not veggies. I think if you take a warfin, such as coumadin you can't have green leafy veggies.

Does plavix act the same as coumadin? Why not do a search on plavix and see what foods aren't allowed? I would give you a web site, but that isn't allowed.

Re: I am so confused

ellesmom,

First order of business, CALM DOWN...I know you're upset.

Second order of business...find out your REAL blood pressure.

Third: get all the results of all the testing in the E/R...what did they finally diagnose?

Unless you had a heart attack throw out the PLAVIX!!!

Take no BP meds for a month and monitor at home...get an average. Ignore this if you had a previous history or diagnosis of hypertension. ONE reading in an E/R setting does not qualify for a raft of antihypertensive meds. If your first readings are very high take the accupril.

Why the Lipitor? Were your cholesterol numbers very bad?

Low sodium. low fat is good ALWAYS and for EVERYBODY; anyone who said restrict green leafy vegetables is off his anti- psychotic meds...they are always good for everyone.
