Help with allergy meds

I have OCD and GAD and have been taking sudafed for allergies... I feel very jittery. Ayone have any luck with a certain allergy medicine that doesnt cause more anxiety. I get fluid build up in my ears so I need something. I take Benadryl at night and was taking sudafed in the day. Help- I feel terrible... Thanks and God Bless

Hi Amanda,

I have PTSD, Panic and GAD along with horrible allergies too. I was recently at urgent care for a sinus infection gone bad. The congestion was horrible in my nose, face, chest, ears. The doc said that normally they would recommend sudafed but he said it was a bad idea for anyone with anxiety to take it because it will cause jittery feelings and heart palps. He recommended mucinex which did help. I noticed last night that they have a new allergy form of mucinex which I will have to check out. Benadryl is great. So is actifed but they will both make you pass out. I also use Flonase which does help to keep the swelling down in the sinuses, allowing my ears to drain. Take care.

I take zyrtec, which is a prescription antihistamine. I can assure you it will not make you jittery. I take it at night and am asleep 30 minutes later.

I was actually prescribed atarax (hydroxyzine) for anxiety, its a drug used mainly for skin allergies, but is now i believe being used as an anti-anxiety drug.
