Singulair Side-Effects??

My wife has asthma and has been on Singular 10mg and 2 inhalers--Qvar & Atrovent for years.
She has developed a rash on her legs that sorta comes and goes. It does itch at times. And, lately she does not sleep as well as she use to do.
I know Singulair side-effects can cause these problems.
Is there any other medication that can be used for asthma that works as well as Singulair??

Claritin may work. I take that during the day, Singulair at night and Albuterol inhaler as needed. Hope she feels better.
