mump

Once someone gets the mumps vaccine, are they immune for life? Or, if they have the possibility of being exposed, should they be vaccinated again?

Re: mump

It's reccomended that everyone get at least two doses of the MMR vaccine. It is not a perfect vaccine and there is a chance you would get mumps even after you had been vaccinated....more of a chance if your last vaccination had been many years ago, since the immunity does wane after time. However it is thought that if you were fully vaccinated and you managed to get the mumps, it would be a much less severe case. If you havent had the second dose, it would be a good idea to get it. A third dose is not reccomended nor does it offer any more immunity.

Re: mump

As a child i had all the required MMRs for school which is at least 2 i think? Then after the birth of my second daughter when i was 20, while still in the hospital, the doctor told me i was no longer immune to rubella and had to have another MMR. So i guess everyone is not always immune forever after having them. It had only been 15 years or less since i had been vaccinated.
