swollen ankles

I wrote here before about my husband and pvc's. He had a monitar on for 24 hours and then he had a chemical stress test followed by a cardiac cath. Everything looked good and his arteries are only about 1% blocked. We had a trip planned to go to Ca which the doctor said OK to and we just came home Monday.Since we have been home his ankles and part of his right leg up to the knee is swollen he has had swollen ankles before and takes water pills but I have never seen them as swollen as this. Tomorrow he will be having his last test an ECG but I don't think we will see the doctor then should I be concerned? Than you in advance.

Re: swollen ankles

lorrie,

Yes edema in the legs is a serious concern. Is there any chance that he is on a calcium channel blocker like amlodipine, nifedipine, verapamil or dltiazem? This drug class can cause leg swelling.

Re: swollen ankles

he is on cardizen cd which is a calicum blocker and that is why he is taking the water pills but come to think about it they did just double his dose so that might be it.

Re: swollen ankles

Hi, I just read your post. I think it is very important that the doctor know what is happening. I wouldn't hesitate calling the doctor. Take care.

Re: swollen ankles

lorrie,
His other choice for pvc's might be beta-blockers (or magnesium.)
The swelling is most probably the result of the cardizem, it's common. Unfortunately it't different from normal edema and diuretics often don't do a thing for it.

A trial without the cardizem is a good idea.
