Exclamation infection after surgery?

hey guys, I didn't know any other appropriate spots to put this so here seems would work. I got surgery for my left leg at mid shin because I had a dent there and my leg was incredably sore to put any pressure what-so-ever so they went in sent it out all that. anyways around the incision its become red and warm to the touch and very very tender. I also noticed that it never leaked before. Not even right after the surgery I never had anything on the gauze pad. Until like last week it was leaking and my father, who had a terrible incident involving well over 60 stitches to the back, told me that is usually a sign of healing, but its been increasing and the middle of it is now open.. and there also was some skin flaking off that was brownish-green around the red side. It would appear to be infected but I was told not to put anything on it and I can't get anything in it expect clear and clean water while showering (have to put it up for shampooing and what not (mega pain in the butt haha))

So any ideas, is it infected or normal. I haven't check for a fever but my temp usually runs @ least 2 degrees below normal anyways so idk. What do you think I should do. I think I have another appointment in a week and a half or so... wait or what should I do?

sorry its long but please help!

Always,
Denise

Re: infection after surgery?

Call your doctor NOW! If it is infected, you do not want to wait. Call your doctor and describe what's going on, and they will probably have you come in. It does sound like it might be infected. This is serious stuff, and you absolutely should not wait another week.

Re: infection after surgery?

Called my mom a second ago and she said put peroxide on it but the doctor said absolutely nothing on it and keep it as dry as possible... so do I put that on it, call tomorrow (office isnt open @ 11PM lol) but I know I probably shouldn't wait...

Thanks again!

Always,
Denise

Re: infection after surgery?

Probably just call the doctor as soon as they open in the morning. I don't know if peroxide would hurt it or not.

Re: infection after surgery?

Hi Denise

If you have recently had surgery on it and it has become infected you nedd to get it swabbed for MRSA.

It probably isnt that, but there is a ihigh chance of contracting MRSA when a person has surgery.

Does it like the wound is healing fine even though it is stitched and signs of infection? (i mean looking at it would you see the area is not opening back up)
