A year ago during a yearly check-up at the obgyn, I asked for some birth control because my boyfriend and I were thinking about starting to have sex. She gave me a sample of Seasonale. I just began taking it 17 days ago (Apr 23, 2006). We had not been sexually active before that.
My boyfriend and I had sex 8 days ago. And, then yesterday, I realized that you know, medicine doesn't stay good forever. I wonder if birth control pills expire? I looked on the package and my pills expired in Nov 05! I feel terribly foolish, I just assumed the samples would still be good.
I called the obgyn and she said that I basically had unprotected sex and that I should come in next week for a pregnancy test. I will go in and see her and get a pregnancy test and a new prescription.
But, I'm trying to not have so much anxiety over the next week! Has anyone else taken expired pills? Wouldn't there be a safety factor built in? I would expect the pills to still be effective for 6 months to a year later. What have others experienced?
