Is it just me?

So I just started taking birth control. It's my first time being on the pill. I was prescribed ortho tri cyclen lo. I took my first pill Saturday at 9pm and took one yesterday and am thinking about taking it today but I am not sure if I want to. The reason I don't want to take it is because I think it's making my depression worse. I could barely get out of bed this morning and all I want to do is cry. Is this a normal symptom for being on birth control? Will it go away? The doctor I saw told me that irritability and such should go away after about a month but if they persist then I should come back and try something else. Any advice? suggestions? I don't want to get the shot and I don't want the ring or that pick that they insert in to your uterus. I just don't know what to do...maybe I should wait a little longer.

Re: Is it just me?

surfergirly,
It isn't 'just you'. I'm currently having the same issues. I've been using the NuvaRing for 3 weeks now and it has DEFINITELY brought on a new bought of depression (i.e, constantly wanting to cry!) I called my gyn TODAY and they were quick to advise me to take the ring out and prescribe a new lose dose pill called Yaz (I had never heard of it) I'm using BC to control symptoms of endometriosis, as well as to prevent pregnancy. I'm actually disappointed the ring didn't work, as most BC makes me nauseous and the ring didn't. I'm hoping switching is beneficial and doesn't cause an "emotional rollercoaster'' effect.

I would strongly suggest you ask your gyn to switch your Rx ASAP. There's no reason to be emotionally miserable when there are alternatives to consider.

Hope this helps!

Re: Is it just me?

I don't know about the Nuvaring, hormonal IUD, etc., because I've never used them. But, I do know that birth control pills in general deplete B vitamins, many of which regulate mood. So, taking a B complex vitamin may help. It helped me.
