Imitrex question

OK -

I'm on 125 mg. of Topamax and my doc has given me Imitrex to take when I have the occassional migraine I just can't handle.

I'm concerned, after reading the s/e and stuff, it has been worried. Before going on Topamax, the doctor tried me on Verapamil and I had to stop because of terrible chest pain. When I saw tightening of chest and stuff on the Imitrex s/e it scared me. If this med anything like Verapamil?? I don't know if I have any hard conditions, other than mitral valve prolapse dysautonomia (heart murmur). I'm 26. I just don't want to end up with chest pain or a heart attack!

Re: Imitrex question

I personally love Imitrex, but I don't have any conditions.

What I would really do is call your pharmacy and ask how Imitrex is similar to Verapamil. If you're really concerned, maybe you can talk to your doctor about putting you on another migraine medicine, but with a lower dosage. Imitrex is high, which I take, but it makes me sick, so my doctor put me on Axert. They all pretty much have the same ingredients, but my guess is that the lower the dosage, the less likely you'll be to have any real problems? I'm not a doctor, after all! This is just my thought.

Re: Imitrex question

ill add my knowledge of imitrex. My doctor told me (and i know all drs are different) but he said imitrex is NOT good to use all the time. maybe coincidence i dont know but when i was on imitrex i developed heart palpataions BUT so many things cause them so i think it just fell into place. to me imitrex is just a med that will quickly take the pain away but its not good to use on a regular basis. but i am a heavy caffene drinker and i know palpataions are caused by that. so yeah a pharmasist would be good to ask but i wanted to let you know what my dr told me. doctors say different things all the time. i was on topamax but it caused some anxiety so they took me off it but it did eliminate head pain. so im hoping i can start them again sometime now that my anxiety issue is over. but we dont know if the anxiety was caused by something i was thinking about or if for sure it was the meds. im gonna give topamax another shot.
