Lexapro = Always Hungry?

I just started Lexapro a couple of days ago and seem to be doing ok on it. The one thing that I really notice is that I am hungry ALL the time. Like to the point where my stomach is growling. This is not normally how I am. Is this an early sign that I will gain weight on this drug? I am not willing to do that so I would prefer to get off it if that is going to be the case.

Re: Lexapro = Always Hungry?

Hi Kristine

There is a similar post about Lexapro and weight gain and it seems that some people do and some don't.

My, personal experience is that it made me very hungry and crave sweets. I gave into my cravings and gained about 10 pounds or so. That is my PERSONAL EXPERIENCE THOUGH.

Best of Luck to you!

Hammy, yes, that's a good sign that you'll gain weight. The average seems to be 20-40 pounds, but I've read lots of people saying that they gained over 60. A handful gained over 100. Weight gain is probably the commonest side effect. Your doctor didn't tell you?

Re: Lexapro = Always Hungry?

I asked my Dr. for one that would not make me gain weight and he said this one would not. This is my first time ever on AD's so I don't know what to expect with them. I asked to go on Wellbutrin and he said no.

Re: Lexapro = Always Hungry?

What was his reasoning for not letting you take Wellbutrin?? I'm just personally curious, because I just recently started taking it, and I'd be curious to know what your doc's hesitations about it were..
For the record, though, I am also on Lexapro, and have been on it a while, have not gained weight or noticed that I craved food or felt hungry any more than usual (oddly, I seem to be feeling more hungry since starting the Wellbutrin!! but I think that is rare, and might be due to other factors, not the medication)
