Lavender -
I've had several endoscopies, and have had no problem. They usually give you a very mild sedative through an IV...you're not exactly out, but you don't remember a thing when you wake up in recovery! And, I've never even had a sore throat afterwards. My take on this is that it's a piece of cake...getting the IV in is the hardest part and that's not even too bad.

It's the best test for figuring out if the hurt is coming from acid reflux or gastritis, which must be what your doctor suspects if he/she wants to do an endoscopy.

If you have more specific questions, put another note on the board and I'll try to answer it. Also, have you been scheduled yet? If so, when?

Well probably next week - I'll have the endoscopy done. I was reading somewhere that they used Demerol and Versed (type of amnesia mediciation). I will have to about be knocked out!

Hi Lavender,

Some Drs. use Demerol and Versed, and others use Fentanyl and Versed. Fentanyl is a narcotic, just as Demerol is, but is more potent. You are correct. Versed is an amnesiac type of medication.

You will be sedated enough so you don't remember. If for whatever reason, you are alert enough and feel anxious, just say something, and the Dr. should give you more. My GI won't go on until he knows I am sedated enough.

You'll do okay. Let me know if I can help more.
