Numbness...why?

Hi,
I am looking for some help on a strange thing that has started to happen to me...
I started to get a sore spot in one of my toe joints some months ago then after a few days I started to get pins and needles in the toe then finaly a numbness.
This has now started to happen in my knees, some of my fingers and now elbows which is quite painful.
The slight touch on my little finger around the first joint sends pins and needles shooting alone the rest of the finger....
I beleve I might be suffering with Arthritis cos I do tend to get very stiff if I dont keep on the move...but apart from that I am in pritty good shape.
Any help as to what I might have would be fantastic as I am starting to get a bit worried.
Thanks

Re: Numbness...why?

Numbness can often be a circulation problem.... Being in your extremities that could be it for you... How long do things stay numb? I also know that numbness can be caused by NERVE problems. And that can be serious. I had a numb foot last summer. Completely numb, no reflexes or anything for over a month and they were never able to figure out why it happened. It was AWFUL. Slowly after a few weeks my reflexes and feeling started coming back. But everytime I get a tingle in a toe even I worry now. You probably want to get this checked into. You don't want it getting any worse, trust me.

Re: Numbness...why?

Hi,
Well once things go numb then they stay numb..its more like a loss of sensation than no feeling at all..just as if you have had some sort of anesthetic applied to an area.
To me it is as if something is attacking the nerves around where I have joints and then once that happens the nerves aroung the joint area get sensitive thus causing the pins and needles and after that dies down the loss of sensation in the joint area...Strange....

Re: Numbness...why?

what medications have you taken in the last 6-8 months? Did you take any antibiotics such as Avelox, Cipro, Levaquin, Tequin, or Floxin?

These drugs can cause long-lasting nerve problems (neuropathy & neuritis).

Otherwise I would say you should go see a neurologist and find out what is going on.
