Medicines and Sexual Ability

Hi Folks, I am writing to get some input on a issue that is really bothering me. I am 63 yo and have a high sexual appetite and take 3 blood pressure medicines Benicar HCT, Toprol xl and now Terazosin. Before the Terazosin I told the Dr. that there must be medicines that does not rob me of the quality of life that I am used to ( a 7oz beer or a small glass of wine and SEX) then he prescribed Terazosin. Anyone that takes high blood pressure meds know that all or maybe most causes impotence. I can get a partial erection but not erect enough to call it wood, probably rigid like a twinkie. I can't understand why he is robbing my of my life. By the way I am also type 2 diabetic. Any help understanding this would be appreciated.
Thanks

It's very hard to identify the cause here. Type 2 Diabetes, I think, by itself can eventually cause ED. All you can do is experiment, although someone else might
offer more precise advice. I think it would be worth your while--given your Diabetes and 3 bp medications--to get the advice of a specialist.

I'd say that unless you have angina or tachycardia, lose the Toprol. It's the most likely cause of the ED.

Terazosin side effect:
prolonged or painful erection (gotta LOVE it! )

But in truth, with the combo of age 63, three BP drugs, and diabetes be grateful for the Twinkie. Many would have something like overcooked pasta!

Re: Medicines and Sexual Ability

Thanks Lenin I can appreciate your humor but I am seriously concerned. I am 63 and was able to get and maintain an erection before I started terazosin and besides I understand Drs don't like to prescribe Alpha blockers because chances of a heart attack after long use are greater than the others. Makes me think he wants to kill me. As for a prolonged and painful erection I'd love to have one.

Re: Medicines and Sexual Ability

Personally, I think ALL BP meds are rotten for a man's erectability. But if I had to pick the worst offender in your pharmacopeia it would be the Toprol. Second worst offender would be the HCTZ. Taking both is almost certain to cause ED.

Jay Leno had a good one: He said that he was taking a drug for ED and saw the warning: "If you have an erection that lasts more than 4 hours call your doctor."
His response: "With a 4 hour erection I'd call EVERYBODY!"
