Post Can heartburn cause lower back pain?

Hello everyone. I have been experiencing lower back pain for approximately 10 months. I have seen different physicians for the problem. They have focused on my kidneys but after blood tests, urine tests, IVP, 2 CT scans and a cystoscopy (yuck!) they have been unable to find anything. Some think it could be muscle or bone related. I noticed that I have been experiencing terrible heartburn for a long time now. I take rolaids pretty frequently and suffer bad heartburn at least once a day usually at night when I lay down. I haven't mentioned this to the doctors but I recently heard that heartburn can cause back pain. Anyone know or have experiences they wish to share? Thank you.

Hi,

I know this is a long time coming and you have probably found the answer by now, but yes I think that that can cause back pain. When you get the indigestion do you experience pain or a burning sensation in the upper belly? This could definiately cause back pain and is known as referred and especially as all your tests cam back negative.

It can proably be likened to referred pain down the left arm from an MI, or referred belly pain felt in the neck and shoulders.

Hope it has resolved now?
