Question Thinking about changing pills...

I've been on Tri Sprintec for about 3 years now and I've had some side effects but never made an appt to change the pill. I have an appt for my yearly on July 12th and I want to bring it up to the doc. I have MAJOR mood swings right before my cycle starts and I threw up for awhile when I started a new pack. Also, I ALWAYS forget to take the darn pill! I go 1 or so and remember and have to double up which gives me major headaches! I started the pill because I have severe cramps and LONG, heavy periods so I definatly want to stick to something that will still control that.

I was thinking of going on the patch until I started reading this board and saw all the negative things about it especially DEATH! Then I started seeing TV commercials about people having a lawsuit against the mfg of the patch. So I think the patch is out of the question....

I know about the IUD but I haven't had any children yet and I'm afraid it may cause problems for when I decide that I'm ready. Also, I like the hormones or whatever that make your period consistent and short and cuts down on my cramps!

Any information would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Lightbulb Re: Thinking about changing pills...

Have you thought about the nuvaring?

It is a ring that is inserted vaginally and left there for 3 weeks, then removed for one week. It has less hormones in it than the pill, because they are in their active forms and are absorbed through the vagina. The progesterone in it is the active form of desogestrel, which is what is in kariva/mircette (which if you read through the board seems like a well-liked pill). Since it is not taken orally, it has less side effects.

The greatest advantage is you don't have to take a pill every day! Great for people who are forgetful.

Check out their website! (google "nuvaring")

I thought I might add... Even if you forget to take it out at the end of week 3, you are still protected from pregnancy if it is left in up to 7 extra days.
