Lexapro long term effects?

Doctor prescribed me Lexapro for two months as a test? I was wondering what are, if any, long term effects? Is this a medication I will need to take the rest of my life? I'm mean, if these two months I feel great I won't want to stop taking it. So with Lexapro, do I take for a while then wean off? Have others been taking for years? I'm just worried about any long term effect? Like take a medication that might screw up my liver or something like that?

Re: Lexapro long term effects?

I don't think so! I've been taking Zoloft which is like lexapro....for 5 years even through a pregnancy and then I switched to Lexapro 3 years ago due to insurance purposes.......found out that I actually liked lexapro better.
I wouldn't worry about that! Trust me, I haven't developed any problems from the lexapro or Zoloft. My son who now is seven is perfectly healthy.

Re: Lexapro long term effects?

PS. If it were a medication that had the potential to damage your liver they would test your liver enzymes after about 4-6 weeks.........kind of like they do if you start taking a cholesterol medication. Lexapro has no know long term effects as of today. Take your medication! I was panic free for 8 years and they started creeping back up on me........well I've had 2 this year......but compared to 0 in eight years that's 2 to many! It really helped me. I'm in school and about to finish my degree . {REMOVED}So give it a try. Everyone is different...this med might not be for you.......but it may. Just have to try it to find out! Maybe that will ease your mind. I always research my meds before taking them.

Re: Lexapro long term effects?

If you are the first person to reply to a thread there is no need to quote the post.

Using the quote function when it's not needed causes threads to become pages longer than they need to be which in turn slows down the server.
