Osteoporosis and LPRD

While I had GERD for sometime, it was under control. Then I began taking Boniva for osteporosis. After 3 months on Boniva I started having the coughing/gagging/cold/flu/vomiting symptoms diagnosed as LPR. I really think Boniva aggravated the problem, because it says "don't take if you have disease of the esophagus". My gynecologist said it was fine to take it, but now I DISAGREE!!! I guess I will have to trade good bones for lack of LPR.

Sort of a danged if do - danged if don't situation!!!

Re: Osteoporosis and LPRD

Hi, I took Actonel for about 6 months or so, and I think it definately did something to mess me up. I stopped taking it and went on hormones instead, at my doctor's recommendation (i have osteopenia).
I haven't had any problems with the hormones, and wish I never started with the Actonel (she told me it was the safest of the bone drugs with least side effects). well, this was a couple years ago, and my stomach stuff and LPR are now full blown. who knows what contributed? probably a lot of things. But I think it's just a matter of "pick your poison"
are you on anythng for Gerd/LPR?
good luck, and I can sure relate and sympathize with ya.

Re: Osteoporosis and LPRD

I was taking 2000mg of calcium for my osteopina and I think that as well contributed to my acid reflux.

Re: Osteoporosis and LPRD

I only took 3 Fosamax pills and knew my stomach couldn't tolerate it and stopped. I think it will contribute to my problems if I were to take and can't imagine how I could even tolerate one pill.
