It seems like Proactiv works because you use an alkaline (the benzoyl peroxide), then an acid (glycolic acid), then an alkaline (benzoyl peroxide), which would kill bacteria not only because bacteria are adapted to one or the other, but because of the sharp change in pH. I have been using citrus fruits to clear my face, which has been working well. I wonder if you could use some cheaper benzoyl peroxide, then use a citrus fruit, then use the benzoyl again, and get the same results as proactiv. I've never actually tried proactiv myself. No offense, I'm sorry to say this, but you sound like an advertisement, and I was seriously wondering if you work for proactiv.
