I'm sorry that you're going through this, but I COMPLETELY understand what it's like! I had mine removed in my mid-teens, and it was just awful! Little kids (I'm talking 8 or under) seem to bounce back with no problems, but they really shouldn't perform this surgery on anyone older, in my opinion. When I had mine out, I had my adenoids removed too, so it was twice as bad!

I don't want to make you worried, but let me tell you what happened to me:
I ended up getting so dehydrated that I had to be readmitted to the hospital and put on morphine. I didn't eat for over two weeks and lost close to 15-20 pounds (going from 5'1" and 110 to about 90 lbs). NOTHING that they suggested helped -- soup (stung so bad that I was in tears!), icecream, ice chips, water, juice, etc. etc.! And whatever I did try to eat, climbed up the back of my throat and came out my nose (I was told this is normal ???, but it was painful regardless). I couldn't open my mouth either, but that's because it was so dry (from dehydration) that my lips cracked and bled badly. Even swallowing my own spit was so painful that I had to hold a cup next to my mouth and just let it drip out.

I couldn't speak at all, and I had to rely on writing things or using hand gestures to communicate.
If I can look back at one thing and laugh though, it's the fact that I was dellusional from dehydration and I started kicking the nurses in the hospital and calling them mean things... and I got away with it!

My best advice to you is to go into the hospital at the first sign of dehydration (which I'm sure has already set in). If you can pinch your skin and have it stay in the "pinched position" for a few seconds, you're not producing urine, or if your eyes are sunken in, it's a good idea to go ASAP. That's because if you get too dehydrated, it'll be hard to find a vein and give you an IV.

Been there, done that. Please keep in mind though that it WILL PASS!!!

When people told me that, I just got more angry and wanted to scream (however I couldn't), but it's true and it DOES go away. Hopefully the results (i.e. stopping strep throat or some other illness) will be worth this short period of pain.

I hope you feel better soon!
