Question birth controll pills and marajuana

i have been on birth controll pills for about 6 months and my doc said the smoking cigarettes can make them a bit more risky to take. it causes a higher risk of blood clots or something. i was wondering if smoking marajuana could have the same affect as cigarettes?

I've always wondered the same myself and have been hesitant to ask my gyn. It seems to create higher tar residue than cigarette smoking which can't be good. Plus I read this report by CNN which is a little scary http://www.cnn.com/2000/HEALTH/cancer/06/21/marijuana.lung.cancer/

Plus I found this statement on this site http://www.afpafitness.com/oralcont.htm

"The New England Journal of Medicine studied 119,061 women between the ages of 30-55 beginning in 1976 and followed them for the next eight years. These women used oral contraceptives regularly and had no history of cardiovascular disease or stroke. This study found no evidence to suggest an increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease among past users of contraceptives even with prolonged previous use. (5) It has been found, however, that current use of birth control pills increase the risk of myocardial infarction, especially among older women and smokers ( both cigarettes and marijuana). (6) Current users have higher blood pressure and unfavorable lipid profiles (cholesterol, triglycerides) as a result of lack of exercise and poor dietary habits.(7) The direct association between cancer, myocardial infarction and premature death coupled with smoking and using oral contraceptives is staggering."
