Post antibiotics for animals

Does anyone know if antibiotics are species specific? Or are antibiotics such as amoxicillin all the same regardless of whether they are prescribed for dogs, cats, reptiles, humans, fish, etc.? I know amoxicillin for dogs can also be used for cats if you adjust the dosage for body weight and ailment. But there was a time that I lost a couple tablets that I was supposed to give to my cat and I wasn't sure if I could give her one of mine since we were both taking 500mg amoxicillin. Kind of a weird question, but just curious.
