Post Remeron

I guess this is where I should post my concerns about Remeron.I have been taking Remeron for a year. Shortly after I started taking Remeron I got a little paranoid. I have never been paranoid in my life. Also there started to be some actual spinning in my head that wouldn't stop. It was driving me crazy. My pdoc increased the dose to 45 mg. Over the past couple of weeks I started having terrible nightmares and started getting extremely paranoid. (I prefer not to give details of paranoia) So, I went back to pdoc and she told me I had a terrible reaction. I was thinking, "duh." She took me off of Remeron 2 days ago a year after telling her what was going on!! A Year! She decided she may try me on Celexa but wants to wait a couple of weeks until the Remeron leaves my system. Maybe I can be normal again mentally. Has anyone experienced these things with Remeron? Also, I wouls like to know what you all think about Celexa before I get on yet another antidepressant.

P.S. I need to know if Celexa causes sexual side effects. Remeron didn't and I don't think my hubby(or I)would appreciate one that does, so I need to know that about Celexa.
Thanks

According to rxlist, Remeron (mirtazapine) lists "thinking abnormal" as a significant side-effect, (3% in those taking active as opposed to 1% of those taking placebo.)

It also lists agitation and anxiety as frequent side effects, with delusions, hallucinations, manic reactions, neurosis, and paranoid reaction as infrequent side-effects.

Nearly every anti-depressant on the market has sexual side-effects. Remeron is one of the nicer ones, as all its side-effects are listed as infrequent, and an increased libido is actually one of the side-effects, although it can cause (again, infrequently,) impotence.

Celexa (citalopram) lists the most commonly-occurring side-effect as ejaculatory problems, most commonly ejaculatory delay.

I guess it's a question between whether that'd be a problem for you (as nearly every SSRI has those problems associated,) or whether you can handle the paranoia or whether the paranoia will diminish with further treatment as your body gets used to it.

Wink

thank you for the help wrin. It was very useful. I have been off of Remeron a week now and feel better than I have felt in a long time. Too bad my pdoc couldn't figure it out sooner. I had been on it a year! I had no idea of those side effect until your post. Then I checked it out at rxlist as you listed. I didn't know Remeron did all that. I guess my pdoc didn't know much of anything either! Thanks a lot, you really helped me.
