Wink

The therory is, that there is no way to truely diagnose candida as the actual problem unless you atempt to treat it and are successful. There is, as I understand it, no way to actually detect the candida (no specific tests) problem other than the process of elimination. Therefore he has me on nystatin and acidopholis in an attempt to treat and/or rule out candida as the source of my symptoms.

Cool

Mike, I have taken Nystatin tons of times, and am actually using it right now. You are right, the only way to really check for a yeast/candida overgrowth is to treat it and then see what happens. There is also a blood test that your doctor can do to check for the candida overgrowth, but even that is not 100% accurate. Mine came back positive, but all that means is that at some point in my life, I had yeast in my body. Big help, huh?? I have always had a good experience with the nystatin. I take the pure one, which is only compounded by a few pharmacies. If you want to try that, I could give you the names of the pharmacies in NYC. Also, I am just curious, how much of the nystatin are you taking? My doctor has me slowly building it up in my system. I know you are a guy, but being that this is for information purposes, I hope you won't get grossed out by it. I started out using one capsule a day vaginally (sorry!) http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/redface.gif and then adding one rectally, and then starting with that plus one pill a day orally, then increasing the oral dosage to about 16 pills a day, and then finally adding it nasally (dissolve 4 pills in a standard bottle of saline nasal solution, and keep refridgerated). My doctor is using this to hopefully treat me for an immune disorder which can sometimes be triggered by yeast. So far I have not seem any difference. I have been on it for a little over a month. I am also using acidophillus and something called culturelle. I also posted a question about this on the immune disorder board, entitled something like "yeast and immune disorders". Some people there gave me some good advice, so you may want to check that out. My doctor is also a frequent contributor to a book called "The Yeast Connection". It talks about yeast and candida, and all of the different illnesses it can cause, and ways it can be treated, etc... If you have any other questions about Nystatin or yeast, feel free to ask me, as I am a pro.

Hello! I joined to get help with yeast infection. I have suppressed immune functioning from yeast. My naturopath proscribed oral Nystatin, 4x /day & 2x Berberine. She just finished studying with Andrew Weil but has been a provider for some time and I think is very good.
I am trying to change my diet. Purple2067, it doesn't sound hopeful if you have been on Nystatin 'tons of times'. Do you get results? What do you recommend? I have to get rid of this yeast overgrowth. All comments welcome! Thank you!!
