I did a search on this board and nothing came up. I was wondering if i could talk to some people who have had to be treated for Q Fever. I will check back to see if anybody replies. Thanks

Re: Q Fever?

I guess this is pretty rare. If anybody cares i have been told i have been exposed to the bacteria that causes it, you can get it from ticks or most of the time inhaling dust from animal fecies, I have no clue how i got it, But i did work outside for the last 5 years, Most people don't have long term effects from it, they might get sick and then they all fine, and they will never get it again. But a very very small percent of people go on to delovepe cronic Q fever, From what i have read 65% of people in this stage will die from it. It looks like only 20 or so people in the US get it ever year so that would be 1 in 12,000,000 each year, well i'm That one . I will keep checking back to see if anybody writes.

I was diagnosed with Q Fever a few years ago. Unfortunately I have no good news for you, but I guess alot of individual factors determine how the disease will run its course. I have had periods of being extremely ill to periods of feeling as if I'm going to get over it and back, it has been an extremely difficult for me. I was sick for 6 months before I tested + for Q Fever. I have done some research about it and there are very few answers because it is under reported and not many people know about it, especially in the US. There is testing available to help determine if you have a current infection, past infection, acute or current infection. You should be tested every few months and compare the results. I was put on antibiotics for an extended period about a year after my diagnosis and it didn't do any good, basically I was told unless you start the antibiotics within a week of exposure there is really nothing that can be done. How are you doing ?

Hello cali11, The doctors told you there is nothing they can do? What are your problems? Can you tell me any info you can about you and how this effects your life? Thanks in advance And i'm doing ok, I think that there is about a 10-25% relief in my pain. I am going to my doctor again this thursday, I have been on Iv treatment for six weeks.

Re: Q Fever?

I wanted to give an update. Also is there anybody else out there with a story to tell?

I got pretty sick three weeks ago, with temps 103+ i saw my doctor last week and i developed a heart mumor and my spleen was inlarged and i had painfull breathing. I was put in the hospital for four days, and had alot of tests done on me. They though at first that my heart was infected causeing the mumor, but i had an enternal echo done and they said my heart was is good shape with only a slight mumor, no infection on the valves. As my temp droped the doctors could not hear the mumor anymore and told me that it could have always been there and or that when i get real sick it could show up, and then go away. They didn't mention my heart was enlarged so that is good, as of a year ago i was told i had an enlarged heart do to Severve hypothyroidism and sleep apnea. After treatment for hypo the sleeping problems also went. And over the last year my heart has went back to a normal size.

Anyways i am feeling 75% normal, and would really like to have any info anyone wants to give to me as i am coming to a conclusing medical treatment might not be able to help me.
