Post Geodon

I am Bipolar and my P-doc just took me off of Risperdal because it made me too sick to function. She replaced Risperdal with Geodon today. I am now on Remeron, Gabitril, and Geodon. Does anyone know anything about Geodon? What are the side effects and does it make you drowsy? i am really interested in finding out if it helps you lose weight. Remeron made me gain 50 pounds in 2 months so I want to take some weight off. So what are the side effects, does it make you gain weight, and does it help with the Bipolar symptoms?
Thanks in advance.

HI, Im not sure about your other drugs, but IM glad youre not taking risperdal anymore! I had severe side effects from it several years ago and ended up on a heart monitor, with my heart beating an extra 500bpm!. I am having good luck right now with Paxil cr and topamax.Hopefully someone else may be familiar with your meds and able to help.

Hi Missmoody,
Sorry to hear you've had a rough time. I too am bipolar and gained alot of weight on Zyprexa. I've heard other people say they didn't gain any weight.
I was on Geodon for awhile. I'm always reluctant to say it worked well - or it didn't work well, since all of our body chemistries are so different. I know this isn't very helpful, but it's just a thing I have about meds, and giving advice. I thought I did pretty well on it, but everybody that knew me said I acted a little spacey. I dunno, I felt fine. I'm not on it anymore because all of my friends and family made such a big deal out of it. I probably shouldn't have listened but, hind sight is 20/20.
Hope it works for you and don't let people change your mind if you're happy w/it.
Best Wishes,
leppi

Unhappy

Okay, I have been on the Geodon for a week or two now and I hate it. It makes me dizzy but mostly sleepy. I am too sleepy to stay awake during the day and find myself napping. I stopped taking it because it makes me feel like I am high and I am not into that. I guess we will have to try something else.
