Question Skelaxin Info. needed

Hello everyone. My doctor gave me an rx. for a muscle relaxer called Skelaxin, however, after a bad experience a couple of years ago with another med. I'm leary of taking it without knowing a little more info.

I don't want to have to go through the same hell I went through 2 years ago!

Any info. anyone can give will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Skelaxin Info. needed

You will be fine with this medication. I have never heard of anyone becoming addicted to it. its failry new and a very good medication for musle pain its a muscle relaxer. It doesn't give you a pleasant feeling like narcotics do and it wouldn't be something you would want to take to get a buzz. What was the medication that your Dr once gave you that had a potential for abuse, was it Tramadol or Soma I am just curious? This medication is not anything like those so you should be fine taking it.

good luck, Slippeyslope.

Re: Skelaxin Info. needed

Hi Vickie,

I am over a month off of a hydro addiction. Recently, I was prescribed Tramadol and Skelaxin for the pain I have. I am sooo careful with the Tramadol after reading here, not from my doctor, that it CAN be addicting. But, the Skelaxin isn't. I still don't take it because it makes me tired. I am on Buspar for anxiety, as well as a small dose of Clonopin. My Pharmacist is the one that finally shook his head and warned me that the things they have me on can all cause drowsiness. The Skelaxin I have only taken a few times, and I can assure you (since I know what being an addict is like) that there was no addictive qualities from the drug. It does make me tired and, from what I have experienced, I'd rather have the muscle pain than not be able to drive. So I don't take it. But I totally do not feel that it is addictive at all. So, if you need it, my opinion is to not worry about addiction.

Post Re: Skelaxin Info. needed

Hi Slipperyslope and Lisa:

Thanks for your responses to my post.

The med I had a problem with 2 years ago was Xanax. I had taken it before a few years earlier with no problems but apparently my metabolism or something changed and 2 years ago it almost did me in, so, these days I'm VERY careful with what I take.

I wish you guys all the best.

Take care, and thanks again.
