constant sinus troubles

My allergies are constantly acting up, i've tried clartiron, zrytec and now im trying Flonase. I've pretty much accepted nothing is going to help me a great deal, although so far flonase is the best. I am just wondering what is the difference between allergies flaring up on occasion and an actual sinus infection. my recent flare up is a little worse than the others - lots of nasal drip, in the morning its especially thick and yellowish... my throat doesn't really hurt by my glands are a bit swollen. Any kind of advice for this and future flare ups - what symptoms differenciate an infection from normal allergies?

Re: constant sinus troubles

I find that something lasting longer than just a few days, and lasting around a week, is usually indictative of a sinus infection for me. Sometimes I won't ever see green or yellow mucos, only sinus headaches, sore throat, etc, lasting about a week. Generally my symptoms *really* worsen over the course of the week, and sometimes I will cough and become short of breath. Keep in mind, though, that I am asmathic, so you might not get the last symptoms I've mentioned. All these symptoms are fresh in my mind, so I just had an infection last week. I am also on Flonase, and find it helps me!

Re: constant sinus troubles

I am on Allegra, Singulair, Flonase and Astelin. I still get flare-ups of sinus infections every couple months. I am currently on week three with one this round. In addition to going on antibiotics, taking a decongestant, headache meds, there are two other things that give me some relief. I good deep massage with some focus on my sinuses helps break some of the "gunk" up and helps me relax some of those muscles that tighten with the pain. I also have a couple visits to the chiropractor. I have been doing this for the last two years. I am not exactly sure how the adjustments to my neck help the sinuses-the chiropractor explained it, but I am still not sure- it gives me some relief though. Besides, the massage table they use at their office helps me relax. I find the muscles in my neck and back get tight after a couple weeks of a sinus headache.

Good luck finding something that works for you.
