Girls, BC question for acne

How long did it take you to see an improvement in your skin once you were on birth control pills? And what type did you take?

I'm on Ortho Tri-Cyclen lo about to start my 3rd month and I see no improvement in my skin. In fact, it's been much worse than when I wasn't on it. I know it takes a while for the pills to fully adjust to your system but do you think I should see at least some improvement within 3 months? I go back to my gyno at the end of this 3rd month and I'm debating whether or not to go onto a different pill, or if it's normal to wait this long for "results."

I don't want to go off birth control pills and try antibiotics or something because I need them for obvious reasons, and I know my acne is hormonal because it only flares up BIG time before and during my period, (plus I'll get maybe one pimple on my forehead and my chin and jawline will be just loaded down. So I definitley know it's hormonal) But ever since I've been on the pills it's a constant at least 6-8 pimples per month (it's gone down a little since the first month of probably 10-12) But did anyone else have this much trouble with their face adjusting to the hormones in the pills?

Re: Girls, BC question for acne

I am afraid that with bc pills, what works for one does not always work for another. Yes, it is possible that it will work by 6 months but it might not. OTC was very bad for my daughter's skin. She finally went off at the 5 month mark and went on to accutane. OTC and accutane were both pretty hard on her skin. She is now on Yasmin and it is much better. She has cleared a lot in four months and this may work for her long term (here's hoping). Mostly, what's left now is scarring. She is also on spironolactone - 50 mgs. and Doryx 200 mg. and this has helped a lot. You might ask for spiro in addition to whatever bc pill you stay with. The science behind that pill makes alot of sense to me.
