Any "side effect sensitive" folks found a med they like?

I know there are some folks who don't seem to have terribly bad symptoms even with meds (like Atenolol) where typically other folks do. I was just wondering if there are any "sensitive" people like me, who have gotten side effects from just about every BP med class they've tried, and then finally found one that works? I know everybody reacts differently to different meds, but I was just wondering which direction to take this time......

I've had reactions to: Lisonopril, Micardis and now will NOT even try Atenolol after reading the side effects from another post. Really, the only one that works for me is Methyldopa (Aldomet) which I do not have any visible symptoms on, but read that long term SE are terrible. Oh yeah, it also made me gain about 12 pounds.

Re: Any "side effect sensitive" folks found a med they like?

From what I've learned on this board, everyone is different. It's just trial and error and I was on atenolol and it was the worst experience of my life. I am not on anything now as my b/p has resolved itself. Maybe mine was anxiety related. But if I have to go on another I'm going to really have high blood pressure because I am sensitive too and nothing agrees with me. Life on Atenolol was just unbearable. I didn't want to wake up in the morning.

Re: Any "side effect sensitive" folks found a med they like?

Hi,

I'm 24 and I have spent the last year searching for something that works for me without the bad side effects I got when I was on Zebeta which is a beta-blocker. I was depressed all the time and I had many other issues like vision problems and impaired concentration in addition to exercise intolerance.

I tried ACEs and ARBs but got very bad side-effects too, I had to try CCBs and I tried Norvasc 5 mg and I got no side effects but it didn't lower my blood pressure even 1 point. Finally, thank god, I tried Cardiazim SR 120 mg and it's working good without any side effects. I also take supplements to help in reducing my blood pressure because the medication alone is not that effective.
Good luck,
Michael

I had brief and moderate adjustment symptoms with Atacand and Diovan, but not bad and not past the 4th day.

I've had major problems with ACE inhibitors and with beta-blockers, so I pretty much rely on diuretics as my choice drugs for hypertension control.

I CAN take ARB's but, as a salt-sensitive hypertensive, I don't find them of much use.

The only CCB I've ever taken was Norvasc and that was tough sledding indeed !
