Question Almopidine 5mg CCB

I've been prescribed this and took my first one this morning. I'll update my other thread, if anyone is interested, medication was the only route in the end.

Reading through the instruction note that comes with the package I've found cause to worry a little... it says may cause erectile disfuction!! at 29, with a GF, that could most probably be my worst nightmare if it comes to pass.

I have some general qestions about Calcium Channel Blockers I hope the board can answer:

1. Have any males on this drug on the board experienced erectile problems on it?

2. What are the side effects people get on this type of drug, from experience, and are they bearable or did they cause you to get another type of treatment?

3. How long before I see results on this, if any?

4. Will I be able to exercise, diet and generally lead a life that contributes to natural BP reduction on this type of drug? I am quite sedentry and am quite a ways overwieght - I wish to rectify both of these things ASAP, so hope this drug does not inhibit that?

5. IF the drug does get my BP down to proper levels, does this mean I am 'fine' per se, and can go 'all out' with exercise and life in general or is that not the case?

Thanks all who have givven me support on here, I really don't know where I'd be without you. It's alarming to think so many in the medical profession can be so ignorant!

Re: Almopidine 5mg CCB

Hi Scout,

I'm on a CCB drug called Cardiazim SR and I have not even 1% ED . I exercise as much as I want, unlike beta-blockers which slow the heart rate much so you can't exercise good. I have no side effects from Cardiazim but the medication alone is not working great for me, I can say good but not great. My blood pressure is not 120/80 while I'm on it but with Magnesium and Flaxseed supplements added to Cardiazim it's 120/80 .

I tried Norvasc (Amlodipine) for about a week last year and I have got no side effects at all too but also no effect on my blood pressure. By the way, I'm 24 so I know what you are talking about. I think that you will not get any ED with CCBs, I think this is the only drug class that will not causes problems for men .
You can exercise of course and if you have no other health problems, heart problems or anything else, I advice you to use an exercise program like Slim in 6 program to lose weight.
Good luck,
Michael
