Question Strange Problems, Can anyone help?

I've been looking for information or anything that can explain whats going on with me. I am currently seeing a cardiologist for these symptoms. About 5 months ago I went unconcious in my kitchen and did not realize it, after that it was occouring several times a week. I went to a doctor who put me on Topral XL 25 mg and sent me to the Cardiologist. The cardiologist asked all my symptoms. " Blacking out, dizzy, confusion(loss of concentration) severe heart pounding, fluttering in the chest, chest pain, shortness of breath, migrains, irritable bowls. I figure the stomach problems were due to the medication. He did a tilt study and figured out everytime i stand up or stand for a long period of time my blood pressure drops for no reason and does not regulate. He said it happens to girls my age, 20 or so, and it usually goes away in there late 20's. He put me on Topral Xl 50mg and Flournif (Fluidrocortizone) 1.mg. I have not had the blacking out since i started the new medication but all the other symptoms are there, he keeps telling me to continue with the medicine. I feel like he may be over looking something, his diagnosis doesnt seem right. Can anyone help or have any suggestions as to what i should do next. It's hard to work with these symptoms and want to find a treatment or cure as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone.
Jenny

What was your blood pressure before he put you on meds? What is your blood pressure on meds? Do you take your pressure at home, too, so you have an idea if the pressure he gets in the office is your usual pressure?

Are you overly thin? Are you anorexic or bulimic?

Re: Strange Problems, Can anyone help?

Before the medication it was as low as 50/40 and now it's lingering in about the 70/80 and every once in a while it gets normal at 120/80. The problem is when i stand up or stnad too long my blood pressure takes a nose dive and takes a while to get back up.
I am in no way too thin. lol. so thats not the problem.

Thanks

jen

MissJenny,

I cannot for the life of me imagine why your doctor would prescribe Toprol for you, It is a beta- blocker usually used to LOWER one's blood pressure, usually rather dramatically.
It would seem precisely NOT what you need.

Am I MISSING something here?

Jenny,

Check the spelling on that other drug. I it's fluocortisone it is given usually to control inflammation but also raises BP as a side effect...so that is what you need. An increase in your salty foods is a good idea too.
But WHY with Toprol????????

I won't presume to prescribe but it sure sounds to me like the Toprol belongs down the toilet.

Re: Strange Problems, Can anyone help?

Hi,
The first thing I would do is see another doctor. I agree with the other person who said, why would a doctor prescribe meds with a complete workup or MRI or something. Don't walk, run to see another doctor, in this case a specialist.
