Any suggestions??

I have had anxiety for the past 5 years. Recently I have been told that I can not take sudafed because it throws me into an attack and it raised my blood pressure. This has never happend to before. The doctors told me to stop taking them, but has not given me any other medication to take for head colds. I was just wondering if anyone has had anything like this happen to them before and if you know what other kind of cold meds I could take??
Please help!!!!
Jackie

Re: Any suggestions??

have you had your thyroid checked? Several years ago i was diagnosed with low thyroid. i can no longer take decongestants because of it. i take an over the counter antihistamine that doesn't make you drowsy. i also have anxiety and am on meds for that. good luck.

Re: Any suggestions??

Sudafed is like caffeine and can cause anxiety and and panic............what I don't understand is its connection to low thyroid........I have that and been on synthroid for 11 years and have always taken sudafed.....usually with a clonopin if the anxiety gets to bad.

I just had my thyroids checked and they are normal. My T3 is low but that is from being on birth control pills.

Re: Any suggestions??

Cold meds (most) have decogestants in them, so yes i could see them causing higher anxiety!
