Just One simple Question

Hi,

I'm going a little insane here and just need to ask one question to see if what I have is normal or not:

Do any of you here have some form of gastritis (ie. I have duodenities) and, rather than experiencing heartburn, chest pain, nasal drip, etc, ONLY have a CONSTANTLY BLOATED stomach??

That is the only problem I have, aside from some very rare mild aches on the right side of my stomach. None of the sites I've researched that describe Duodenitis list bloating as one of the symptoms. They list everything else except bloating. I've also not been able to find one post anywhere that links bloating to duodenitis. I would just really like to know if I'm some sort of medical anomalie here, or if I've possibly been misdiagnosed...I'm trying to stay positive here but slowly I am starting to forget what it feels like not to be totally 'full' at all times and it's starting to get to me!

Any answers would be greatly appreciated, even if you just right 'yes' or 'no'!!!

Thanks!

Re: Just One simple Question

alex,
i think you need to get another diagnosis, and maybe even a third.
it seems to me that the doctors may be missing something.
I would be concerned if I had that constant bloating and NO other symptoms.
I have lots of symptoms and bloating is one of them but not constant --not to alarm you but I would pursue another opinion, maybe have some tests run, gallbladder, liver etc.?
good luck and hope you get to the bottom of this soon.

Re: Just One simple Question

Thanks for answering!

Right after I read your response I called the second doctor I went to and he gave me my ultrasound results: everything is fine. I then asked him if it was normal that my only symptom would be bloating, even when I don't eat anything. He said it was normal and to keep taking the Losec and "wait". I then asked if it was normal that I'd seen zero improvement since I started taking it and he just said "yes, wait". This is frustrating. Wait for how long?? Will I one day wake up and my duodenum will decide its healed? Shouldnt the losec gradually help it heal and therefore start reducing my bloating?
I guess nobody has the answer to this. But could it be that I just need to find the right medicine? Like Carafate might help me instead of Losec?
I realize this has turned into a ramble. Sorry about all the questions but any answers would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Just One simple Question

Alex,

My understanding of the word "bloating" is that it feels like there is is AIR trapped in your tummy/intestine. You seem to be describing your bloating as a feeling of "fullness", which I dont think is what bloating is.

Cheers,
Gary

Re: Just One simple Question

I think most bloating other than trapped air during swollowing is caused by the friendly bacteria in your Gastro system being out of balance.
This can happen for many reasons from a medictions like a round of antibiotics & other drugs that upset the good flora to too much salty, sugary or spicy foods and even alcohol.

There are over 400 different strains of bacteria that live in your GI system and when some get out of balance it messes up your digestion so much that a big symptom is bloating.
Many of these bacteria thrive on sugary food as well as drinks and simple carbs.
Unfortunately there is no tests to determine the normal amount present in a person's system since many normally reside there.
So, a doctor should go by your symptoms but they mostly deal with drugs and this is not a drug problem until it gets really out of control and you get a bad yeast infection treated with alot of antibiotis like some people that have AIDS or serious infections related to Cancer. Then an anti-fungal drugs are used -- like Diflucan, Sporanox, Nyzoral, Nystatin, etc.

I think your best course is to re-balance the friendly bacteria with yogurt, Kefir and Probiotic supplements.

Some good ones that I use are Pearls for L. acidophilus, Culturelle, PB-8. I also eat Stonyfield Farm yogurt 3 time daily and drink 4 oz. of Kefir every other day or so.

There are many others probiotic supplements on the market but some are better than others.

Some cultures re-colonize your intestines and some help digestion and pass on through.

I wish you well~~~Harry
