Hives, me hubby and daughter

My daughter started to get what looked like itchy bites so I changed her sheets, gave her room a good vacuum. Then my husband started to get them, by the time I got them I decided they werent itchy bites. They look and feel like mozzie bites. Itchy, red and sometimes a little pus. We were waking up each day with a new batch. I have no idea what is causing this. It is definetely not fleas or mozzies. I believe it must be hives.

I have changed all our sheets, changed my washing powder (although I have been using this brand for years) Does anyone have any ideas. I heard it can be a virus. I cant think of anything new that all of us have been using that could be a cause and we dont take any medications. Thanks

Re: Hives, me hubby and daughter

Wish I could help but I am here for the same reason! DH had a few bumps but there all gone. DD has them around all the warm areas - armpits, tummy, inner thigh, back of knee, etc. I checked for fleas, can't locate any signs, we washed sheets, stopped using a new detergent. Hers are raised and red, very itchy. I don't get it! I hope you find a soulution to yours soon! T.

Re: Hives, me hubby and daughter

Hi both,

have you looked into the possibility of fungal infections. I'm not sure it is but it might be worth looking up info on the net and seeing what you think, they can be very itchy and are quite stubborn to treat. I have one at the moment and am washing my linen and towels very regularly .

They do like warm, moist environments. Although it doesn't explain mine as I have it on my arms and legs not the insides of my thighs etc.

Have you contact with pets? Has a family member got athletes foot? It could be a possibility. Apparently animals don't always scratch that have it, but if they do scratch it may be a more obvious sign they could have something like ringworm, a fungal infection.

Do they stay small or do they get larger over time?

Re: Hives, me hubby and daughter

doesnt' sound like hives..

hive don't look like "bites"

individual hives will appear, then disapear in the same general area, but they will generally not appear and stay there for more than a few hours. I've had giant hives that appeared and stayed there but they were about as big as your thumb, and easily didn't look like bites.

do they go away if you take an antihistamine and leave no marks on the skin? if so they may be hives.. but it really doesn't sound like it.

sounds more like bed bugs...

Re: Hives, me hubby and daughter

Hi thanks for your repsonses, my husband gets althetes foot and has done for years, we do all tend to use the same towels. We dont have any pets and havent been around any. The marks dont come and go, they stay. I did some looking on the net for info and hives do seem to come in different forms. What are bed bugs and where do they come from. Are they dust mites? I used anti histamine which reduced the itching and they started fading.

The good news is that we havent had any new outbreaks the last few times so am hoping its over with. Very strange.

Thanks
